Shredding

Is shredding the only service you offer?

We also offer document storage and scanning as standalone services. However, many of our clients choose a comprehensive document management approach that involves a custom combination of our shredding, storage, indexing, scanning, and scan-on-demand services.

How does your shredding program work?

For recurring and ongoing shredding services, we deliver free, secured, lockable container(s) to your office. Your documents will be safeguarded in the container until your scheduled service visit. On your scheduled service day, a uniformed SRS professional will arrive at your location to securely collect the contents of your container(s). Documents can be securely destroyed on-site or taken back to our shred plant. After completion of each shredding visit, we provide you with a Certificate of Destruction. Finally, we securely recycle 100% of all shredded paper material.

Is there anything that shouldn’t go in the Shred Bin?

Good question! While there are many things our industrial shredders can handle, there are some things that are potentially hazardous or dangerous to our team members when mixed with paper in the shred bin.  Please do not dispose of batteries, metal, plastic, food or medical waste (needles, etc.) in your paper shredding bin.  If you are in need of medical waste services, give us a call and we’d be happy to connect you with the appropriate vendor.

What is the difference between mobile and offsite shredding?

Mobile shredding, also called onsite shredding, is when we shred the materials before we leave your premises. Our mobile shredding fleet makes your onsite document destruction needs quick and compliant. Each of our mobile shred trucks is equipped with an industrial pierce-and-tear shredder, meaning that your documents are cut in multiple directions as they go through a series of blades. This turns your documents into small, unreadable particles. In fact, our trucks can destroy over 5,000 pounds of paper in a single hour. And you can watch the entire process take place.

Off-site shredding happens at our shred facility. It is the most cost effective, timely and equally secure method of destruction. Our facility shredder can destroy 350 sheets of paper per pass, or 2.5 tons of paper per hour. Simply put, our shredder can destroy in minutes what would take your staff days or weeks to finish, at the expense of other projects. The contents of the locked bin are destroyed under surveillance as soon as they reach our facility. The shredder is under surveillance and operated by extensively trained employees with specialized clearance.

Can I watch my documents being shredded?

If you have requested mobile service, you are welcome to watch your documents be destroyed. For security and safety reasons, we cannot allow the public into our shred plant.

Where can I drop off my documents?

If you only have a few bags or boxes, we suggest dropping the shredding off at our location in Thomasville. Please give us a call to schedule your drop off. You can also take advantage of some of our partner drop-off sites.

Do you offer shredding for blueprints, magazines, x-rays, etc.?

Yes, we can shred all types of documents.

Do I have to remove staples or clips off my documents?

Our industrial shredder easily shreds paper clips, staples, and rubber bands. However, please remove all 3-ring binders and binder clips.

Do you destroy anything besides paper?

Yes! In addition to all types of paper, we destroy and recycle most types of media. Give us a call and we will help you find a solution for all your product destruction, electronics decommissioning, and recycling needs.

What do you do with the shredded paper?

All the paper we shred is securely recycled and used to make other paper products. Check out our sustainability report to learn more about our environmentally conscious efforts.

I have a lot of documents but no way to get them to you. What can I do?

No problem! We offer mobile shredding services for one-time purges. We can bring our shred truck to your home or business. We will move all the files to the shredder, and you can watch as your documents are destroyed – no need to haul documents anywhere. This service is perfect if you are moving, retiring, or closing out estates. Call us and we can discuss what will work best for you.

Shred Day Event

What is a Shred Event?

Shred events are essentially a “Drop-off” style service hosted by a business or community organization in partnership with SRS. This is a great opportunity for residents and attendees to securely destroy unwanted documents in a safe manner. Typically, the events are free to the public and sponsored by the host organization(s). The sponsoring business determines location and time (usually two hours) and works with SRS to schedule the date.  If you are interested in hosting a Shred Event, please give us a call and we’d be happy to share our Shred Day guidelines.  If you are looking for dates and locations for upcoming shred days, we encourage you to keep an eye on the events page of our website and social media

How can I host a shred event?

Contact Us or email [email protected] and we can share the sponsorship guidelines and help schedule your event.

How much paper am I allowed to shred at community shred events?

As these events are open to the public and serve hundreds of residents, there is a limit of three (3) small boxes or bags of paper per vehicle / household. In consideration of your neighbors, we recommend the size of a copy paper box or grocery bag. If you have more than three (3) small bags or boxes, please call our office and we would be happy to assist with your cleanout.

Acceptable types of paper for community shred events?

Envelopes with plastic windows, paper with paper clips and staples, and any type of paper such as receipts, tax and medical records, and financial and legal documents.

Unacceptable items for community shred events?

Electronic items including computer disks, hard drives, and CDs (we have the capacity to destroy these items, but they are not included in the complimentary Shred Events. We charge an additional fee to handle electronic media. Please contact us for more information!)

Plastic items such as plastic bags and 3-ring binders or binders with metal components.

Security & Compliance

How do I know my documents will be safe?

SRS is proudly NAID AAA Certified. To maintain our certification, we participate in both scheduled and surprise, unannounced audits. NAID reviews more than 20 areas of operational and security requirements including particle size, employee screening and training, transport, access control, video surveillance, procedures and record keeping. Companies must renew their certification each year.

SRS is NAID AAA certified in both plant-based and mobile shredding. SRS’s custodial services – records storage, online backup, and scanning/images – are all certified as well. Read more about our Security & Compliance standards.

Are all your employees screened?

Yes! All SRS employees are screened and trained in compliance with both our NAID AAA and PRISM Privacy + Certification. This includes extensive background checks and drug screening.

Does it cost extra to receive a Certificate of Destruction?

No! SRS issues a Certificate of Destruction (COD) after each service visit to provide documentation of the secure destruction of your material, and you may retain the issued certificate of destruction as audit evidence for HIPAA, FACTA and GLB compliance. This is part of our standard service.
