Thanks to Blough Tech for including us in their November Blough Tech Security Conference – we learned a lot and appreciated the opportunity to educate attendees on “Opportunities for Enhancing Workflow with Digitization”. A few highlights follow:

Information Governance is about automating security and compliance while improving efficiency. It requires you to have a strategy for creating, managing, and destroying information.

Information Compliance vs Information Security: Compliance is about meeting the requirements of specific laws, such as HIPAA, GLBA, and PCI. Security is about policy, process, training, accreditation, and risk management. These steps toward effective information security can be met with partnerships, such as hiring a professional firm to help you establish policy and processes, or to conduct ongoing training, or to address specific elements of the information creation, management, and destruction lifecycle.

ECM Storage vs Workflow: There has been a push to develop enterprise content management (ECM) software for every industry, and a push to “scan everything” has followed. ECM is viewed as a storage solution for removing paper from the work environment, but storage is the least of a robust ECM’s capabilities. Scanning without strategy to reduce paper is a waste of money at best. This is creating an overload of data and time-intensive manual labor for administrative workers in every industry. This can be resolved with an effective workflow strategy built into the ECM software you’ve chosen. A good workflow strategy will reduce the number of steps your team takes in each information cycle, including how many people have to review a piece of information in an approval process and the number of times a document is converted. Thats right, many documents are scanned, printed, and scanned again.

See the following examples for ECM Workflow strategy solutions we’ve implemented that have led to information automation in many industries:
